Cuffing Season
I have a hot take when it comes to dating in the summer - I don’t think it’s the best season for dating. Yes, everyone is out and about more, their seasonal depression has disappeared and people are generally in a social mood. But it’s also the time of year when people are out of town and taking their summer vacations, going to weddings and disappearing to their local beach towns for weeks at a time. So what is the best season to date?
My opinion is that Fall is the best season and here’s why:
Weather - It’s still great weather! Arguably more enjoyable than the Summer because it’s still nice out but not so hot. And great weather means people are out and about more, taking advantage of outdoor activities and feeling more social. Especially before the Winter months hit.
Fall Activities - There are so many fun things to do in the Fall that lend itself to being social and meeting new people. Take advantage of football season by grabbing some friends and hitting up your local dive bar where there will be plenty of eligible guys watching as well. Join a fantasy football league that gathers in person so you can meet people. Go on hikes, join a community sports league or explore new coffee shops with the best Fall drinks.
A Fresh Start - Even if you're not in school, the Fall season always has that back to school feeling that allows everyone to reset and lean back into their intentions that may have fallen apart over the Summer. Fall has a great sense of renewal and refresh that other seasons don’t have. And that especially includes dating. Since people are more settled and tend to have a break in all of their travels, their focus shifts more towards dating intentionally. Reset your dating mindset and embrace what this season has to offer. Which brings me to my final point.
In the dating scene, the Fall season is also known as Cuffing Season. This term refers to people dating more intentionally so they can find a partner in time for the cold Winter months when it’s not as enjoyable to be out and about. Not only do people want to find someone to snuggle up with by the first snow, they also start to think about the holidays and all of the expectations and questions from family members. So dating someone starts to sound a lot more appealing.
My biggest piece of advice for Cuffing Season is to not put any pressure on it. Just like any other month or season, go into dating with no expectations besides putting yourself out there, learning more about yourself and having fun. This term certainly does not guarantee that you will meet someone and get into a relationship. Remember, the last thing you want to do is get into a relationship just to get into a relationship. It should be because it’s the right relationship. And my advice for having a successful Cuffing Season is the same as my advice for Single Girl Summer - create a full life, find your people and get uncomfortable.
With any new season comes a fresh start and that’s especially true for Fall. So set new intentions, lean into what Fall has to offer and reset your dating mindset. It’s Cuffing Season so you never know what that will bring!
